Advancements in #Flash Technology

Following #FLASHNEXT,lets try to summarize the technological advancements made in Flash -

  • Hybrid Arrays: Storage systems with a variable percentage of flash, with automated data placement (hot data on flash and cold data on HDD) to provide a balance of (usually not the highest) performance and (often the lowest) price. These are best for users’ persistent and predictable data that does much of the basic daily work.
  • All-flash ArraysCombines the power of flash and the capabilities of enterprise storage
  • Server Flash as Local Storage: PCIe flash card (that uses MLC media) deployed in the server as a local storage device for application acceleration. By storing data locally on the server, improves the performance of application reads and writes by reducing latency and accelerating throughput.
  • Server Flash as Cache: For mission-critical workloads in which data must be protected by the array, PCIe Flash cards can be coupled with intelligent server flash caching software. While accelerating reads, leverages a write-through algorithm to ensure that newly written data persists to the networked storage array for persistent high availability, integrity, reliability, and disaster recovery.
